Comment for Barbara Birks
“My sister and I did this in December. Neither of us had ever painted before. Colleen’s instruction was so clear and easy that we both produced hangable art in two hours. We did a beach sunset with palm tree, and they now hang in my living room at the sides of an acrylic Florida sunset that another sister painted for me. Amazing and fun! We’re looking forward to the next class.”

ALL CLASSES TAUGHT BY PROFESSIONAL AND CERTIFIED TEACHERS
Colleen Cassidy is a Ringling School of Art and Design graduate. She received a degree in fine art in 1981. Since that time, Colleen has honed her craft, specializing in watercolor and painted furniture. She also began teaching her unique artistic outlook to students at various schools in the area. In 1995, she opened her own watercolor art school in Sarasota, where she teaches children and adults of all ages and skill levels. Her award-winning works have been exhibited at Florida West Coast Symphony Designer Showcase, American Society of Interior Designer Showcase, Art Center of Sarasota, Arts Day, Art Center of Sarasota and Longboat Key Center as well as various local art and gift galleries locally and nationally.
Laurie Dunham is a self-taught mosaic artist, originally from Holland, MI, but I’ve lived in Sarasota for the past 47 years. I’ve taught many different crafts over the years, but when I discovered mosaics…That was it! I’ve taught mosaic classes since 2002. Two of my favorite mediums to mosaic with are stained glass, (due to the variety of beautiful colors and textures available) and tempered safety glass (because the clear, fractured glass acts as a “lens” to view the colorful surface below, and because it can conform to almost any shape!) I love to use lots of COLOR in my art work and enjoy inspiring others to tap into their creativity.
Connie Christensen - Award-winning artist Connie Christensen graduated with honors from Ringling College of Art and Design, majoring in painting. Her artwork has sold internationally and appeared in national publications. Connie is accomplished in both traditional and digital mediums, and often intertwines the two. As a teacher with a lifelong passion for artistic expression, she openly shares her knowledge to inspire and assist her students in their own creative explorations. For examples of her work: www.christensenart.com
Joanne Healey is passionate about creativity and imagination and uses mixed media as way of to bring this out in everyone. Mixed media is very forgiving and allows endless possibilities of expression. Mistakes are easily corrected and pasted over. Your imagination can soar and your self-expression can experience freedom allowing you to experiment with the artist within. Don’t hold back, let it all go and see what comes out. I think you will be surprised and delighted.
Jimmy Peters – A black and white photograph strips away the literal presentation that color sometimes imposes allowing the viewer to concentrate on form, texture, subject, and the photographers’ intent. In many cases this allows the viewer the freedom to make a more thoughtful interpretation. –Jimmy Peters
Liz Trostli-Rusling – an experienced professional graphic designer and teacher (www.etrostli.com)
Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Elisabeth Trostli moved to New York in 1961. She received her artistic education at the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design, majoring in Illustration and Education, attaining a BFA in ’72 degree and an MAE in ’76. Since 1981, Elisabeth Trostli has been a successful free-lance artist and designer, serving the advertising, stationery and giftware industries.
In her TROSTLI DESIGN Website, (www.etrostli.com) posts a catalogue of her original images: She combines her passion for tropical flora, antiques, travel and historical decorative arts in the creation of art /surface design. The poster-sized digital collages blend antique paper scrap, exquisite hand-painted embellishments and digital magic in a format that is both decorative and meaningful.
In 2004, Elisabeth received teaching certification in Massachusetts. She created and taught a complete 3-year curriculum in Design and Visual Communications for students majoring in Graphic Design. In 2011, received teaching licensure from the State of Florida in Visual Arts.
She is eager to share her artistic vision and expertise in Digital Art, using state-of-the art Adobe Creative Suite. Her classes, workshops and individual instruction.PS. Elisabeth is fluent in German, Brazilian Portuguese – and English.
